About

I build platforms, from the infrastructure up to the tools developers use. Lately, that means provisioning resources, immutable clusters, and the deployment pipelines that feed them. Good tooling removes steps and mental overhead. I’ve learned to recognize when it succeeds and when it gets in the way.

My current work focuses on modernizing a legacy ERP platform, taking an aging on-premises deployment model and re-designing it to run on Kubernetes. I focus on infrastructure and DevOps, and weigh in on the rest of the stack, architecture, APIs, event-driven design. The stack runs on Talos OS, a Kubernetes operating system that’s immutable by design, with no access by SSH or HTTPS, only the API. In my free time, I’m focusing on developer tooling for the language that legacy platform runs on, a business language from the ’80s that hasn’t seen new developer tooling for some time.

Previously I maintained legacy enterprise systems such as ERP and WMS. The work showed me where legacy systems frustrate developers, and what makes them painful to deploy and debug.

I’m based in Ontario, Canada (EST) and work at staff-level scope. You can reach me at hello@evanrobertson.dev, or browse my work or writing.
